Report: Cardinals show interest in supplemental draft prospect Rashaun Simonise

The Arizona Cardinals landed six players in the 2016 NFL Draft, but they may not be done picking players.

The NFL’s Supplemental Draft is Thursday, and according to one report, the Cardinals have shown interest in at least one of the available prospects.

If you are unfamiliar with Simonise, it’s because the receiver played his college ball up north for the University of Calgary Dinos, the alma mater of Cardinals defensive back Elie Bouka.

A 6-foot-5, 190-pound wideout, he ran the 40-yard dash in a reported 4.42 seconds, while posting a 35-inch vertical, a 10-foot broad jump and eight reps in the 225-pound bench press.

Last season, Simonise recorded 51 catches for 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns in eight games, earning All-Canadian honors in the process. However, he was ruled academically ineligible for the 2016 season, and thus decided to enter the supplemental draft.

The supplemental draft features players who did not enter the regular draft, often times due to missing the filing deadline or eligibility issues.

Simonise is one of six players elegible to be picked Thursday, and any team who chooses a player will lose a pick in the corresponding round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The Cardinals have twice chosen a player in the supplemental draft, landing Washington State QB Timm Rosenbach with a first-round pick in 1989 and LSU TE Willie Williams with a ninth-round pick in 1990.
