For the third year in a row, Paul Goldschmidt is the D-backs’ recipient of the Heart and Hustle Award.

The award honors players who exhibit “passion, desire and work ethic” both on and off the field. It’s given by the MLB Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) to one player on each of baseball’s 30 clubs, with an overall winner announced in November.

“There is simply not another star player in all of baseball who, every day, runs as hard as Paul on every ball that leaves his bat,” said D-backs first base coach Dave McKay in a team press release. “He pushes himself and his teammates to be better each day.”

On Sunday, Goldschmidt avoided grounding into an inning-ending double play when he ran out a ball down the first base line, just beating the throw. It kept the frame alive, and the D-backs went on to score their sixth run of the game – the deciding run.

Goldschmidt is a four-time All-Star and two-time runner-up MVP. Prior to Tuesday’s game against Toronto, he’s hitting .297 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI this year.
