Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta will undergo season-ending wrist surgery on Thursday, manager Chip Hale said after Wednesday night’s 3-2 win against the New York Mets.

Peralta was placed on the disabled list Aug. 6 for the third time this season as he’s battled wrist and back injuries.

Manager Chip Hale said before Arizona’s current road trip that he did not know whether Peralta’s wrist issues were directly related.

Arizona’s outfielder did not play from May 9 through June 5 with right wrist inflammation and returned only eight games before he returned to the DL with a back injury. He returned for another seven games before reinjuring his wrist by making a leaping out at the fence of the Diamondbacks’ 3-2 win in 11 innings against the Brewers on Aug. 5.

The season ends for Peralta after just 48 games played. The 28-year-old closes 2016 with a .251 average, four home runs and 15 RBI.

Moving forward, Arizona will fill Peralta’s outfield spot with a rotation that could include Michael Bourn, Yasmany Tomas, Brandon Drury and Rickie Weeks Jr.

Earlier on Wednesday, Peralta tweeted a photo of his television tuned into the D-backs’ game against the Mets.
