Zack Godley was moved to the bullpen on Aug. 7 to make room for the return of Arizona Diamondbacks ace Zack Greinke.

At the time, D-backs manager Chip Hale said Patrick Corbin was under consideration when it came to roster moves, and exactly a week later, that move has been flipped.

Corbin did little to justify the decision on Friday in his start against the Boston Red Sox. He allowed nine hits and eight runs — four of which were unearned — in 1.2 innings. It was loss No. 12 for Corbin in 2016 and his sixth straight in his last seven starts.

Many were raving about the potential of Greinke and Shelby Miller to anchor the rotation heading into the 2016 season, but Corbin was also seen as a valuable third piece. His 2013 All-Star season when he started 11-1 with a 2.35 ERA is a distant memory. Since that nod, Corbin’s record is 13-25.

As it turns out, Godley was the one to relieve Corbin in that Boston game Friday and he gave up just two hits and one earned run in 5.1 innings. Godley’s other relief appearance since the move was a scoreless 1-2-3 inning against the New York Mets on Thursday.
