The Boston Celtics already had the shortest player in the NBA on their team in 5-foot-9 All-Star Isaiah Thomas, so it would make sense that they would be the team most likely to double down by signing a player whose head lies below the chest of some of the players on their team.

That’s what happened Tuesday, when the Celtics signed an under-the-radar prospect in 11-year-old Stephen Register of Needham, Massachusetts to a one-day contract, as reported by the Boston Globe.

The team worked with Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island to make Register, who suffers from intractable epilepsy, the newest member of the Celtics family.

Register received his own jersey (No. 17) and basketball shoes and held his first press conference with the Celtics before going onto the court with his new teammates Amir Johnson and Kelly Olynyk to shoot some hoops.

Make-A-Wish looks to grant the wishes of children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and seem to have succeeded in making Register’s a reality, as he said it’s a day he will never forget, according to CBS Boston.
