Cardinals injury report: Trey Benson, Marvin Harrison Jr. out vs. Jaguars

The Arizona Cardinals are designating Trey Benson to return from injured reserve, but he and Marvin Harrison Jr. are out against the Jaguars.

TEMPE — The Arizona Cardinals designated running back Trey Benson to return from injured reserve this week, but he was ruled out for the game Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Benson (knee) was limited during the first three days of practice after his 21-day window opened up.

Cardinals receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will miss a second game as he recovers from appendicitis, head coach Jonathan Gannon said Wednesday. Running back Emari Demercado will also not play this week due to an ankle injury suffered in Sunday’s loss to San Francisco, Gannon said.

Pass rusher Baron Browning (concussion) and safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (ankle) account for the other players ruled out.

Kelvin Beachum, who will start at right tackle with Jonah Williams headed to injured reserve, is questionable after being upgraded to a limited participant in Friday’s practice with a groin issue.

Also questionable are starting cornerbacks Will Johnson (back/hip) and Garrett Williams, right guard Will Hernandez (knee), defensive lineman Darius Robinson (groin) and backup offensive lineman Hayden Conner (knee).

Notably on the Jaguars’ side, defensive end Travon Walker (knee) and receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle) are out.

It really was and is malpractice..

The amount of injuries the Cards have year to year, is just ridiculous! LOL we lost Conner then his backup, and our answer is Bam freaking Knight! Only the Cards could do something like this!

Player availability is such an issue.. And everyone involved bears significant blame..

NFLPA - Soft tissue injuries have skyrocketed since they negotiated theat big reduction in Contact Practices.. In an attempt to have longer careers, they are actually creating the opposite, cause the body isn’t prepared.. A good example is a boxer.. They train for 6 months before a single fight..

Teams - they will spend less when ever possible.. Especially the Cards.. This concept of “they are pros and don’t need to be told” clearly doesn’t work.. And yeh players ages are quickly forgotten.. They are 20 something pros.

League - needs to absolutely mandate a “strength and conditioning” spending floor per team.. The NFL is worth hundred of billions of dollars .. And they need to be investing in the players availability big time! And no, this isn’t accomplished by installing a Flag Pro Bowl or a wonky kick off system...

The injury thing has indeed soured my taste for the NFL and MLB as well. (NBA also I guess).The Champs may or may not be the best, but they are the healthiest in the end. Any team in the NFL will suffer if QB goes down for any length of time. The Fins and Cards can't seem to keep QB#1 on the field. Injuries kill SF almost every year also. The DBacks are nothing more than a rehab center. So it just takes one injury to tank an entire season more often than not. That just kills the fan base and the casual watcher.
