Andrea Ayton, mother of Suns’ Deandre, awarded for helping single moms

Helping Hands for Single Moms is a nonprofit in the Valley that helps low-income single mothers pursue a college education.

Andrea Ayton, Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton’s mother, was recognized last week for her impact on the program. She was given the My Mom, My Hero annual award, and her son presented it to her.

The Suns’ center posted a video of some highlights from the ceremony on Twitter Thursday evening.

“Andrea Ayton is my rock, my motivation,” Ayton said while presenting the award. “She really helped me be the man I am today. I wouldn’t be anywhere without her and God. And I would just like to give her a big round of applause.”

Helping Hands for Single Moms has assisted hundreds of mothers in their ambitions to earn a degree, according to its website.

It provides scholarship money, emergency funds, mentoring, tutoring, networking meetings, auto assistance and more benefits, according to its site.
