The Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday agreed to trade outfielder Tim Locastro to the New York Yankees in exchange for right-handed pitcher Keegan Curtis, the team announced.

Locastro, 28, has struggled at the plate this season and is slashing .178/.271/.220 with 11 runs scored and five RBIs.

Capable of playing center field thanks to his speed, Locastro could also be a utility piece as a base-running threat.

In 91 games during 2019, he stole 17 bases without being caught. He flashed confidence at the plate during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign, when he slashed .290/.395/.464 over 33 games played.

The trade for the Diamondbacks is the first sign of the expected selling as the squad has sunk to 22-60 on the season. The Major League Baseball trade deadline is not until July 30.

Arizona acquires the 25-year-old Curtis, who holds a 3.94 ERA and 1.31 WHIP this season over 16.0 innings for the Double-A Somerset Patriots.

Curtis struck out 27 batters over those games to seven walks.

For his three-year minors career, Curtis has 83 strikeouts to 26 walks and has an opponent batting average of .205.
