Diamondbacks hitters are not to blame for recent woes

The Arizona Diamondbacks have posted a 6-9 record in their last 15 games, have fallen to 23-32 on the season and are 10 games out of first place in the National League West.

In this 15-game stretch, multiple Diamondbacks hitters have put up tremendous numbers, but the pitching staff has not been able to hold down the fort despite the offense’s recent efficiency.

Since May 16, the Diamondbacks’ offense has averaged 5.1 runs per game, while batting .266 as a team.

The pitching staff has allowed 6.0 runs per game, posting a 5.63 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP.

Paul Goldschmidt has a .385 batting average (20-for-52) with three home runs, 13 RBI and three steals. Goldschmidt is getting on base at a high rate as well with a .508 on-base percentage to bolster his OPS to a 1.104 clip.

Jake Lamb has been efficient as well, batting .340 (16-for-47) with five home runs and 12 RBI. Lamb holds an 11-game hitting streak going into the final game of the four-game series against the Houston Astros.

Not everything is going well at the plate for the Diamondbacks, as Yasmany Tomas is struggling. Tomas is batting just .170 (8-for-47) in his last 13 games.

Tomas hit a two-run home run on May 25, but that hit accounts for half of his four RBI since May 16. Tomas has been streaky this season and his hot streaks have allowed him to maintain a slash line of .265/.323/.435.

If Tomas’ recent performance continues, manager Chip Hale may need to look for alternate options. Hale will also need to force someone out of the lineup when David Peralta returns, which could be as soon as this weekend, and Tomas may be the odd man out.
