Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Ildemaro Vargas smacked a single into left field on Thursday in Milwaukee, pushing his hitting streak to 26 games dating back to last season.

Vargas reached several benchmarks by hitting 26 games:

That number matches Paul Goldschmidt (2013-14) for the second-longest hitting streak in Diamondbacks history. Luiz Gonzalez sits atop the list at 30 games.

Vargas also matched Wilson Ramos of the 2019 New York Mets for the longest hitting streak in major league history from a Venezuelan-born player, according to Stathead.

The switch-hitter passed Stephen Drew and Junior Spivey for the longest road hitting streak from a Diamondbacks hitter with 19.

Additionally, Vargas tied 2006 Edgar Renteria for the longest hitting streak to start a season (23 games) since 1976.

Vargas’ streak has provided a must-see element to the Diamondbacks’ games of late, as the 34-year-old journeyman continues his unexpected surge.

The Diamondbacks fell way behind quickly on Thursday, however, trailing 6-0 after three innings and 8-1 after four.

Arizona lost the game 13-1, as Vargas represented one of the only bright spots.
