Diamondbacks’ Pavin Smith coming off IL, Tim Tawa optioned

Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman and designated hitter Pavin Smith is coming off the injured list, while outfielder Tim Tawa is being optioned to the Triple-A Reno Aces.

Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro was the first to report the moves.

Additionally, veteran first baseman Carlos Santana has been transferred to the 60-day IL (strained right adductor).

Smith hasn’t played for the D-backs since being placed on the 10-day injured list retroactively on March 29 with left elbow inflammation. He was later transferred to the 60-day IL on April 14.

His most recent MLB game was on March 28, a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his two games before injury, Smith went 1-for-6 with a single, two walks and a pair of strikeouts.

Diamondbacks option Tim Tawa

Tawa is being optioned after appearing in 29 games for the D-backs so far this season. He’s slashing .169/.265/.254 with a .519 OPS. He registered eight RBIs on six hits and eight walks to 16 strikeouts.
