Shohei Ohtani scratched from Friday start vs. Diamondbacks due to knee issue

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani will not make his scheduled start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday due to left knee irritation.

The Dodgers added Ohtani will still serve as the designated hitter the rest of the weekend before having “some interventions on his knee to put him in the best position for the second half of the season.”

Ohtani won’t travel to Philadelphia for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game because of that.

In 14 starts (85.2 innings pitched) for the Dodgers this season, Ohtani is an impressive 8-2 with a 1.79 ERA and 0.946 WHIP.

That stretch includes a 7-0 win over the D-backs on June 3 where Ohtani went six innings and allowed just two hits and one walk. He struck out six.

As a hitter, Ohtani is slashing .290/.405/.534 with a .939 OPS. He’s registered 20 home runs, 56 RBIs and 60 walks to 90 strikeouts.

In six games against the D-backs, Ohtani has slashed .450/.607/.650 with a 1.257 OPS. Of his nine hits, two were doubles and one was a triple. He added two RBIs and seven walks to three strikeouts.

Kyle Hurts is now expected to start for the Dodgers, while the D-backs turn to Eduardo Rodriguez in Los Angeles on Friday night.

The 2026 MLB All-Star is 7-3 with a 2.25 ERA this year.
