Suns rookie Ryan Dunn named 2025 Rising Stars replacement

Phoenix Suns rookie Ryan Dunn was named an NBA Rising Stars replacement on Friday after a recent snub days prior.

With Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain out for the year after undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus, the young Sun slides into the final spot among the other nine rookies chosen earlier this week.

Since moving into a starting role in place of guard Bradley Beal, the rookie is averaging nine points on 47.9% shooting and 37.1% from deep to go along with 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists across 21.3 minutes per game.

He’s also brought added defense to the starting rotation.

While the Virginia didn’t crack the initial player pool, the rookie didn’t let the snub throw him off.

“I’m just focused on getting wins right now for this team and just trying to get better as a player,” he told reporters on Wednesday. “Obviously, I’d love to go to San Francisco and play, but whatever happens, happens.”

Ryan Dunn not the only replacement with Phoenix ties

In addition to Dunn, another Phoenix draft pick and current Portland Trail Blazers guard Toumani Camara also cracked the NBA Rising Stars player pool as a replacement.

Camara, Orlando’s Anthony Black and Detroit’s Ausar Thompson are taking over for fellow sophomores Dereck Lively II (Dallas), Brandon Miller (Charlotte) and Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio).

The Blazer was a part of the multi-team trade centered around former Phoenix center Deandre Ayton and then-Portland guard Damion Lillard. Phoenix also picked up center Jusuf Nurkic in the trade.

The mini-tournament tips off Feb. 14 during NBA All-Star weekend.
