The Arizona Cardinals will be without Deone Bucannon in their week one matchup against the Detroit Lions, as the dollar linebacker injured his ankle.

“Bucannon has no chance,” head coach Bruce Arians said. “(His recovery) was right on schedule and he sprained it on the first day working out on the bags.”

The dollar linebacker was activated off the PUP list on Aug. 22 after having ankle surgery earlier this year. It was a lingering problem that had been bothering the 25-year-old since Week 4 of the 2016 season.

It wasn’t immediately clear how long the re-injury keep hold him out.

“It’s one of those things, it could be tomorrow, could be three weeks,” Arians said.

In 2016, Bucannon played 13 games and had 89 tackles with two passes defensed and a fumble recovery.

The dollar linebacker position makes for an inside linebacker-safety hybrid. Currently, the Cardinals have ILBs Karlos Dansby, Haason Reddick, Josh Bynes and Philip Wheeler on the roster. They also have Scooby Wright on the practice squad.

I believe it was "Old Dansby" that broke up the first pass play from scrimmage against Atlanta in the preseason that lead to the Badger's interception...not worried about Los a bit.

This is not good news but I think they will be Ok since Bucannon has not practiced with them very much so far...They are used to him not being there but he will be missed if it lasts to long.

Actually was kind of expecting he wasn't gonna play week 1..
That ankle injury is so tricky, one mistake and it will roll... To me Los and Josh should be able to get the job done.. But would assume the Lions will test the middle extensively..
I don't see a drop from Mint and Buc now that the Badger is 100%.. Bank on him playing near the box! Jones and Golden should have a field day too!
