How he’s wired: Cardinals’ Carson Beck not looking to ease into anything

TEMPE — Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Beck could see more work than most of his third-round counterparts in 2026.

Unlike some stuck way down on the depth chart in Year 1, Beck is expected to get his starting shot at some point as the Cardinals evaluate the position ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft that is expected to be loaded with quarterback prospects.

But even if Beck was on the path to holding the clipboard for a season or two, that wouldn’t deter him from his all-in mentality.

“From Day 1, I didn’t want to ease into anything to be completely honest,” Beck said Wednesday. “I’m here 13 hours a day. I get in here early in the morning and obviously we have our stuff that’s required and not necessarily mandatory, but obviously as a rookie, you’re going to be here and you’re going to do it.

“Then we get done with practice and we have of our rookie meetings, and then I’m here with Coach Hackett, Coach Schaub, can ask Coach LaFleur a question if I have something, but really just spending as much time with them. … Just trying to pick their brains and just take every little inch and every little thing to add it to my repertoire and get as good and as comfortable as I can is something that I’ve done from the second I feel like I’ve stepped in the building.”

While Beck could very well see the bulk of the starts in 2026, he still has some work to do to get there.

Currently, there’s a pair of veteran quarterbacks to jump on the roster in Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II, plus an offense to fully nail down.

And that’s before mentioning getting used to the speed and different complexities of the NFL.

To Beck, they’re just more boxes to check as he continues to strive for greatness.

“I have very high expectations (for myself). I always have my entire life. It’s really what motivates me and I’ve always been very internally motivated,” the quarterback added. “For me, the biggest thing was coming in here, a) learning the playbook, b) building connections with my teammates and then c) trying to become the best quarterback that I possibly can. Each and every day just trying to be better than the day before.

“The expectations that I have for myself, I feel like I’ve been pushing those and pushing those and pushing those. And each day, they only get greater and greater, because if I was better than the day before, then I need to be better the next day as well. “That’s kind of just how I’ve always been wired. That’s how I’ll continue to approach it.”
