Coyotes rookie Max Domi suspended one game by the NHL

The Arizona Coyotes will be without the services of one of their young stars when they host the Florida Panthers Saturday night.

Arizona's Max Domi has been automatically suspended one game for instigating an altercation in the final five minutes of regulation time.

Domi was docked a game after getting into a scuffle with Anaheim’s Ryan Garbutt late in Arizona’s 5-1 loss to the Ducks Thursday night. The rookie was assessed a two minute penalty for instigating, a five minute penalty for fighting and 10-minute penalty for game misconduct.

Before news of the suspension broke there was speculation that something would happen based on a league rule.

So really, the suspension is automatic given the nature and timing of Domi’s offense, though the 21-year-old who is second on the team in points does not appear to be all that remorseful.

The Coyotes have lost seven games in a row as their postseason hopes have slowly slipped away. Their tilt with the Panthers begins at 7 p.m. and the game can be heard on ESPN Phoenix 620 a.m.
