Paul Goldschmidt is among seven players under the Arizona Diamondbacks’ umbrella who will participate for seven different nations in the World Baseball Classic, which will take place from March 6-22.

The D-backs’ first baseman is the lone United States player participating. He is joined in the tournament by right-handed reliever Fernando Rodney (Dominican Republic), right-handed reliever Silvino Bracho (Venezuela) and infielder Daniel Descalso (Italy).

Arizona signed both Rodney and Descalso this offseason.

The other three D-backs players taking part in the tournament are part of the Arizona farm system: outfielder Zach Borenstein (Israel), outfielder Rey Fuentes (Puerto Rico) and left-handed pitcher Miguel Aguilar (Mexico).

The World Baseball Classic teams will compete in a three-round format.

The first includes four pools — in the cities of Seoul, Tokyo, Miami and Jalisco — before a two-pool second round of more round robin play with two pools, in Tokyo and San Diego. The championship round of single-elimination tournament play will take place in Los Angeles.
