Evidently, the door on Chris Johnson’s tenure as an Arizona Cardinal may not quite be closed.

While the Cardinals have expressed confidence in Kerwynn Williams, Elijhaa Penny and T.J. Logan, all of whom are set to back up starter David Johnson, head coach Bruce Arians did leave open the possibility that a veteran could be added to the mix.

“We’ll see,” Cardinals coach Bruce Arians answered Tuesday when asked about the team potentially having interest in a more proven, veteran back. “I don’t see a glaring need for one right now, but there’s always a possibility.”

That possibly could include Johnson, who joined Sirius XM NFL Radio Friday and reaffirmed he is not ready for his playing career to end:

Johnson spent the last two seasons with the Cardinals, and made quite an impression.

A training camp pickup in 2015, he went on to lead the team in rushing with 814 yards before a broken leg sent him to injured reserve. He returned in 2016 on a one-year contract — spurning more lucrative offers elsewhere — only to have a groin injury cost him the final 12 games of the season.

Prior to landing in Arizona, Johnson spent a season with the New York Jets after six years with the Tennessee Titans. In his career, he has rushed for 9,537 yards and 55 touchdowns, and right now he ranks third among active players in career rushing yards.
