Watch out! Paul Goldschmidt fields bunt, nearly takes out bird

The Diamondbacks are doing little to get back into the good graces of all birds.

More than 16 years after Randy Johnson brought bad karma to the Diamondbacks by taking out a bird with a pitch, Paul Goldschmidt came close to ending a dove that landed on the infield during Arizona’s hosting of the San Diego Padres.

When San Diego pitcher Dinelson Lamet bunted toward first base, Goldschmidt’s glove appeared to swipe the wing of the little, feathered friend before the first baseman kept his focus enough to throw out Matt Szczur at second base.

A later television shot by FOX Sports Arizona showed the bird sitting in the grass, apparently not injured — but perhaps needed to get his or her heart rate down after nearly being scooped up by Goldschmidt’s glove.

And so continued the D-backs’ complex relationship with feathered creatures.
