The Arizona Cardinals have placed running back Adrian Peterson on injured reserve and claimed cornerback C.J. Goodwin off waivers, the team announced Friday.
The anticipated move by the Cardinals comes after Peterson told ESPN’s Josina Anderson the status of his injury early Friday morning.

Peterson is the 13th Cardinals’ player on IR heading into the final three weeks of the season. Friday morning, long snapper Aaron Brewer was activated after spending the last eight weeks nursing a wrist injury he suffered against Philadelphia in October.
Peterson has missed the last two games due to the neck injury he suffered against the Jaguars on Nov. 26. He has not practiced since the injury.
Since being acquired from the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 10, the 32-year-old has 129 carries for 448 yards and two touchdowns in six games for Arizona.
Peterson came out of the gates strong for Arizona, rushing for 134 yards and two touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his Cardinals debut and then carrying the ball a career-high 37 times for 159 yards against the San Francisco 49ers two weeks later.
With Peterson’s roster spot vacant, the Cardinals added depth to the secondary, claiming Goodwin from the Atlanta Falcons.
A wide receiver at California University of Pennsylvania, Goodwin signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2014. He remained on the Steelers practice squad his rookie season before joining the Atlanta Falcons practice squad in 2015.
Goodwin played in 14 games for the Falcons in 2016, mostly on special teams where he recorded 10 tackles. This season, Goodwin played 12 games for the Falcons, recording five tackles on defense and three on the special teams unit.
