It’s not every day you hear about a dominating defensive
performance in the Arena Football League, but Sunday, the
Arizona Rattlers turned in exactly that in a 68-34
pounding
of the San Antonio Talons at US Airways Center.
Arizona’s defense harassed San Antonio quarterback Aaron
Garcia all day long, sacking him four times and forcing
four
turnovers.
Rattlers’ linebacker Tyre Glasper spent a good portion of
the afternoon in the San Antonio backfield, racking up
three
sacks while forcing two fumbles and recovering one.
On offense, Nick Davila threw four first half touchdown
passes; two each to Kerry Reed and Maurice Purify, who
leads
the AFL with 875 receiving yards and is tied for second
with
20 touchdown grabs. Purify finished the day with 9
catches
for 132 yards and three td grabs. For good measure, he
returned an onside kick 9 yards for a touchdown in the
fourth quarter for the Rattlers, who pushed their record
to
4-2 on the season. Arizona is in a three-way tie with
Utah and San Jose for first place in the Western Division.
San Antonio fell to 3-3 with the loss.
