The Arizona Coyotes’ 2015 third round pick, defenseman Kyle Capobianco, was selected Wednesday to the 2018 American Hockey League (AHL) All-Star Classic.

The 20-year-old who plays for the Tucson Roadrunners, the Coyotes AHL affiliate, has recorded two goals and dished out 19 assists in 33 games for the club this season.

Capobianco joins Roadrunner teammates Nick Merkley and Dylan Strome in the AHL All-Star Classic. The players will also be playing under their head coach Mike Van Ryn.

Former Roadrunners captain and current Coyotes scout Craig Cunningham, who was forced to retire because of cardiac complications and the loss of his left leg, will be at the game as well as the honorary captain.

Capobianco wasn’t originally selected to the All-Star game, but he was added to the roster after the AHL announced that San Antonio Rampage defenseman Jordan Schmaltz will be unavailable for the All-Star Classic.

Capobianco was called up to the Coyotes for the first time in early December, and he made his NHL debut against the Boston Bruins at The Garden.

The 2018 AHL All-Star Classic will be played on Jan. 28 and 29 in Utica, New York.
