Following an impressive 54-28 home win over previously undefeated Mountain Pointe Friday night, Brophy College Prep running back Marche Dennard was named the Arizona Cardinals and Wells Fargo “High School Player-of-the-Week.”

Dennard, who had 82 first-half yards, gained 235 rushing yards by the end of the third quarter. It was at this point that Brophy pulled away from Mountan Pointe after falling behind 21-7 in the second quarter.

Dennard finished with 264 rushing yards on 26 carries and three touchdowns.

This is the 10th year of the Arizona Cardinals Player of the Week award. The selection panel consists of a local sports panel including members of the Cardinals organization as well as media personalities.

Dennard will be presented with a plaque from the Cardinals at a ceremony at Brophy Prep on Thursday, October 4 at 10:00 a.m.

The Arizona Cardinals also named longtime Blue Ride head coach Paul Moro Coach of the Week after his team’s 45-0 victory over St. Johns High School last Friday night.

With this win, Moro became the first coach in Arizona high school football history to win 300 games all at the same school. Moro has won 12 state championships at Blue Ridge since 1987.

The award will be presented to Moro and the Blue Ridge High School football team on Friday, October 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Apache Junction High before the Yellow Jackets’ game against the Prospectors.

The Cardinals 18-year “Coach-of-the-Week” program presents a selected high school coach with a certificate signed by Cardinals President William V. Bidwill and Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt.
