October 5, 2012: Dudley sets the season dunk meter
LA JOLLA, Calif. — There was no hesitation in his answer.
“Seventeen,” Jared Dudley said.
So, the longest-tenured Suns player is predicting 17 dunks this season.
That’s quite a goal, especially when one considers Dudley threw it down only five times last year.
“I took a step back last year,” he admitted for what was believed to be for the first time when approached about the subject.
“It was a shortened season. My legs couldn’t really get under me.
“But this year,” Dudley continued, “I’ve been dunking a lot preseason. I don’t know if you’ve guys have seen but just ask around. I’ve been doing a lot of dunking, reverse dunking. I’ll probably dunk tonight in the scrimmage.
“Seventeen but I’m looking to go over that. But 17 is the number.”
Uh, Dudley? Eighteen was apparently the number last year.
“I was shooting for the stars,” he responded. “You can’t shoot for the stars like that. Right now, I’m just trying to shoot for the sun. I think 17 is legitimate. One year I had ten. I’m going to build off that.”
Grant Hill and the rest of the NBA are now on high alert.
