Phoenix Suns’ Lon Babby: ‘We have a better chance to win’

The Phoenix Suns are preaching patience for the upcoming season, but President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby doesn’t think the team is in a full-fledged rebuilding phase.

In fact, Babby told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug & Wolf Wednesday he believes the Suns have a better chance to win than they did in recent years.

“The last couple of years for me was like running the sands through the hourglass,” Babby said. “So what we’ve finally done after two years of planning really to put ourselves in a position to do it is turn the hourglass over.”

The Suns have re-ignited a spark within their system, replacing aging players with younger talent that Babby believes the team can cultivate and watch grow together over the coming years.

“We are younger, we are more athletic and I would argue vehemently that our talent level is higher than it’s been in the last two years really,” Babby said. “We’re going to win by bringing it every night and playing with enthusiasm and being hungry and having a group of guys that are searching for their identity but at the same time are pulling for each other.”

Babby said the Suns’ organization is more balanced than it has been in quite some time and the focus now is on the players’ execution.

“We are going to play defense in ways that maybe historically we haven’t played here and at the same time play up-tempo, so I think we’ve put the things in place, now we’ve got to prove it over the next period of time.”

With the departure of franchise face Steve Nash, the Suns have developed a different strategy for their offense, while relying more heavily on their defense.
