D-backs manager Lovullo provides injury updates to Marrero, Dyson

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo discussed the latest in injuries concerning the team on Sunday during his pregame press conference.

Infielder Deven Marrero, who is recovering from an oblique strain, played nine innings Saturday for Triple-A Reno and “felt good,” according to Lovullo. The 27-year-old is expected to play third base in Sunday’s Reno game.

Marrero played shortstop for AZL on July 29 and designated hitter on July 30.

“He’s passing all those tests,” Lovullo said on July 30. “The medical team has said that everything’s going exactly the way it should.”

In addition, outfielder Jarrod Dyson remains on the disabled list due to a right groin strain.

Lovullo said Dyson’s running progression is slow, and that he is working on his agility.

“It’s just a matter of getting some strength in that lower half before we get him on the bases or start running him on the field,” Lovullo said prior to Sunday’s game against the Giants.

Dyson has played in 67 games this season.
