The name may be different, but the bowl game at Chase Field remains.
This year’s Cheez-it Bowl will feature Cal and TCU.
Cal is playing in its first bowl game since 2015.
The Golden Bears finished the season 7-5 with quality road wins over BYU and USC and a home win over Pac-12 champion Washington.
Patrick Laird was the team’s offensive star, rushing for 932 yards and five touchdowns.
TCU won three of its final four games to secure bowl eligibility.
Sophomore wide receiver led the Horned Frogs with 1,061 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
The 30th edition of the annual bowl game pairs the Big 12 and Pac-12 opponents on Dec. 26 at 7 p.m. in the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Last year, Kansas State took on UCLA in the then-Cactus Bowl matchup.
After UCLA took a 17-7 lead into halftime, Kansas State fired back in the second half, scoring 28 unanswered points to secure the 35-17 win.
Rookie Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen was the starter for UCLA during the regular season, but did not play in the bowl game for the Bruins.
