The Arizona Cardinals have reportedly hired former Denver Broncos defensive backs coach Greg Williams to become the team’s cornerbacks coach, ESPN’s Field Yates reported Thursday.

Williams, not to be confused with current Jets DC and former Browns coach Gregg Williams, joins a staff led by head coach Kliff Kingsbury and a defensive group headed by defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. Joseph and Williams worked together in Denver last year when Joseph was the Broncos’ head coach.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that the Cardinals will hire another former Broncos defensive backs coach in Marcus Robertson, who held the title simultaneously with Williams in 2018.

Williams actually began his coaching career in the Valley when he was an intern at ASU in 2003. He was later an assistant coach at College of DuPage, a defensive backs coach at Arkansas Tech and a secondary coach at Pittsburgh.

His first NFL job came in 2009 when he coached the Chargers’ linebackers, and he remained a coach in the organization through 2015. After two years as the defensive backs coach in Indianapolis, Williams went to coach in Denver and now follows Joseph to the Cardinals organization.

The Cardinals still need to hire the following coaches: offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and defensive line coach among potential assistant position coaches for defensive line, running backs and wide receivers.
