The Arizona Coyotes sent forward Conor Garland to AHL Tucson on Tuesday as the Roadrunners have three games left in their regular season.

As Roadrunners reporter Alex Kinkopf notes, the Roadrunners control their playoff destiny as they sit one point out of a playoff spot.

Garland was available to help in Tucson as the Coyotes, with whom Garland played since Dec. 8, have completed their regular season and did not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Garland is one of three Coyotes who are waivers-exempt, meaning he can be sent to Tucson without first clearing waivers. Forward Christian Fischer and defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin are the other two.

Garland made his NHL debut this season and made the most of it, playing in 47 games and scoring 13 goals with 5 assists for 18 points. He had two multi-goal games and had a stretch of 10 games in which he scored eight goals with two assists for 10 points.

He signed a two-year contract extension in February.

The Athletic’s Craig Morgan reported that Garland would be the only player Arizona sends down for Tucson’s playoff push.

The Roadrunners’ three remaining games are on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, respectively.
