One day after his historic debut, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Taylor Clarke was optioned back to Triple-A Reno as the team recalled pitcher Jimmie Sherfy.
Clarke was lights out on Saturday pitching the final three innings of a 6-0 win for the D-backs in relief of Zack Greinke.
Clarke recorded two strikeouts while giving up just one hit and earning the save.
He also recorded an infield single to become the first player since saves became a stat in 1969 that a player recorded a save and hit in their MLB debut.
Sherfy has posted a 3.38 ERA in 5.1 innings and nine strikeouts with Reno this season.
In 26 games played at the MLB level, all with the D-backs, Sherfy has a 1.00 ERA in 27 innings with 26 strikeouts and a .926 WHIP.
