Former Detroit Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks, a league source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The former BYU Cougar is reportedly set to fly into Seattle on Thursday to sign the contract after agreeing to the terms Wednesday night.

Because the Seahawks are waiting until Thursday to officially sign Ansah, Seattle won’t have to lose any of their four 2020 compensatory picks, as unrestricted free agents signed after 4 p.m. ET on May 7 will not be used in the formula to determine compensation picks for next year’s draft.

Ansah will help alleviate the loss of DE Frank Clark, who the Seahawks traded to the Kansas City Chiefs on April 23.

Ansah spent six years in Detroit after being drafted fifth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Lions.

The soon-to-be 30-year-old spent last year on a franchise tag worth $17.143 million.

Unfortunately for Ansah, a shoulder injury that required surgery only allowed him to play in seven games and could possibly keep him out until after the beginning of training camp.

The defensive end has a career 48 sacks in 80 games and only has one Pro Bowl appearance that came in 2015 after recording 14.5 sacks.
