Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck retires from NFL

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck announced his retirement from the National Football League on Saturday in a press conference after the team’s 27-17 preseason loss to the Chicago Bears.

Luck’s retirement was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The announcement comes as a complete surprise, as Luck was considered to be one of the better quarterbacks in the league.

Luck, who is only 29 years old, spent just seven years in the NFL after being drafted No. 1 overall in 2012 out of Stanford to replace future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

The four-time Pro Bowler’s health was a major concern coming into the 2019 season, as Luck hadn’t been able to even practice this preseason.

But that shouldn’t come as a surprise due to the number of hits he took in his tenure in Indianapolis that caused him to miss the entire 2017 season.

Luck’s departure will no doubt shake up the league, as Jacoby Brissett will now take over under center for the Colts.

In his seven-year career, Luck threw 171 touchdowns for 23,671 yards on his way to a 53-33 record, four playoff appearances and one AFC Championship Game appearance.
