The Arizona Cardinals entered Sunday morning with room left on their roster, but they’ll need to clear more after an aggressive poaching of players off the waiver wire.

Arizona general manager Steve Keim told his players after the team’s second preseason game that he would use his position atop the waiver wire priority order to improve the roster: as in, all their jobs were on the line.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said there was a fine line to walk to determine whether a player was worth a claim.

“They have to drastically improve what we have because you have guys who you invested six months of coaching and installations,” Kingsbury said Friday. “And so if they’re not a dramatic improvement, then it’s going to be hard to make a move.”

From the looks of it, the Cardinals feel they have made some improvements.

Below is a running list of the latest news of waiver-wire action, signings of players who cleared the wire and a secondary round of releases:

Placed CB Robert Alford on IR

The Cardinals knew Alford would be out for an extended period of time. They’ve officially placed him on injured reserve for an unspecified amount of time.

Waived RB T.J. Logan

Logan was the team’s 2017 fifth-round pick out of North Carolina. The 24-year-old running back played in ten games for the Cardinals last season and had 37 yards.

Waived LB Pete Robertson

Robertson spent the 2017 season with the Washington Redskins where he had four combined tackles in four games. The Cardinals previously signed him to the practice squad and then a Reserve/ Future contract in Dec. 2018. In three preseason games for the Cardinals, he tallied seven combined tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Waived ILB Tanner Vallejo

Vallejo was one of Arizona’s first waiver pickups after 2018’s 3-13 season. He played well in the final preseason game, but it wasn’t enough as he was behind backup inside linebackers Joe Walker, Dennis Gardeck and Zeke Turner. Gardeck and Turner project as solid special teamers.

Signed Seahawks DE Cassius Marsh

A 6-foot-4, 245-pound end, Marsh has signed with the Seattle Seahawks. He should swing in as an immediate contributor at outside linebacker alongside Chandler Jones and Terrell Suggs. Brooks Reed and Pete Robertson entered Sunday as the backups.

Marsh recorded 38 tackles with 5.5 sacks and 14 quarterback hits a year ago over 16 games for the San Francisco 49ers. He is either the clear-cut No. 3 option or could push to split time with Suggs.

Claimed Rams CB Kevin Peterson

Peterson played in six games for the Rams during the 2017 season, tallying 11 tackles and two interceptions. He also had a pick this preseason of Oakland Raiders backup quarterback Mike Glennon.

With Peterson having entered the NFL as an undrafted signee of the Chicago Bears in 2016, it is likely Cardinals special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Jeff Rodgers is familiar with him. Rodgers was coaching special teams with Chicago at the time.

Claimed Lions S Charles Washington

Washington has played in 29 games and recorded 20 tackles for Detroit over the 2017 and 2018 seasons and brings that little bit of experience to a team that has rookie safeties Deionte Thompson and Jalen Thompson sitting behind starters D.J. Swearinger and Budda Baker.

Claimed Bears DL Jonathan Bullard

A third-round pick by Chicago in 2016, Bullard has appeared in 46 games with 62 tackles and two sacks to his name. At 6-foot-3 and 297 pounds, he adds end depth to a team that would otherwise be heavily leaning on rookies Zach Allen, who could still start, and Michael Dogbe, a seventh-round pick.

Claimed Raiders OT Justin Murray

The 26-year-old Murray has only appeared in two games over his career, both last season for Oakland.

He could be relied upon as a backup as rookie seventh-round pick Josh Miles was the only backup tackle listed on the roster heading into Sunday — though guard/center Mason Cole could play the position in a pinch.

Claimed Eagles OT Brett Toth

A rookie out of Army, Toth received a military waiver in mid-August, paving the way for him to ink a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles before they waived him.
