The memes are already beginning to flow from the NBA bubble at Walt Disney World in Orlando. And the beautiful part about them is, usually, the memes make themselves.

As teams began to arrive on Tuesday, they were required to remain in their own individual hotel rooms until they came back with two negative coronavirus tests that were at least 24 hours apart.

So, they had to have food delivered to them that was prepared by the league. As a few national reporters later noted, the chefs the NBA planned to have at the hotels were not arriving until after all the teams had quarantined.

That led to this.

On Thursday as more teams arrived, Los Angeles Clippers center Montrezl Harrell put in his food photo on Instagram saying, “Yeah I’m bout to starve out here in Orlando” and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid noted, “I’m definitely losing 50 lbs.”

As you can tell, that doesn’t look too appetizing. In came the tweets playing off the meme.

With this being a topic of conversation the last 48 hours, Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams was asked how the food is.

No complaints from him!

“It’s not that bad, man,” he said. “My grandparents raised me in Spotsylvania, Virginia, so I know what it’s like to eat some different stuff. It’s not that bad at all. I think so many of us are spoiled and we’re used to eating certain foods a certain way, but to be honest with you, it’s not bad at all.

“I’ve enjoyed it so far.”

Now, Williams clarified that he wasn’t expecting it to be all that great. So maybe his lower expectations affected how he felt about the food.

“I’ve seen a lot worse,” he said. “Now, the guys who have personal chefs at home — maybe they have a different sentiment than I do but I’m actually OK with it.”

New Suns guard Cameron Payne described it as “alright” and “so far so good.”

Regardless, it was another hurdle the league perhaps didn’t anticipate having to clear with a majority of the focus rightfully on everyone’s safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
