How do you judge urgency in a 60-game season? For the Arizona Diamondbacks, they’re not adding any yet after a 1-3 start against the San Diego Padres.

“It’s just four games,” shortstop Nick Ahmed said after Monday’s 6-2 loss. “We got a chance to finish the road trip .500 if we go out and get two wins in Texas so it’s not what we wanted but we’re not going to sit here and sulk about it.”

The question is being asked if there needs to be some because the offense, defense, starting pitching, bullpen and baserunning all had its own poor stretches. They struggled at times in every phase of the game.

Here are some of the more concerning numbers for the D-backs from the four-game series.

9

Eduardo Escobar, Carson Kelly, David Peralta and Ahmed combined for 57 plate appearances. In those, they combined to reach base nine times. That is a .158 on-base percentage.

5.2

The longest outing of the season thus far by a D-backs starter was Madison Bumgarner going 5.2 innings on Opening Day. He was the only D-backs starter to record an out in the fifth inning or later.

4.0

This means that, yes, the likes of Robbie Ray (3.2 innings), Zac Gallen (4.0) and Luke Weaver (3.1) all couldn’t eclipse four innings pitched.

15

San Diego had 15 more walks than the D-backs in the series, 27-12.

16.1

The D-backs bullpen narrowly missed out on throwing more innings than the starters, at 16.1 compared to 16.2. D-backs relievers gave up eight of the team’s 21 earned runs for the series.

6

Starling Marte was the only D-backs batter to have more than five hits in the series, with six.

1

Kole Calhoun hit the one homer of the series for Arizona.

3

Marte was also the lone D-backs player to score more than one run over four games. He scored three times.
