The Arizona Diamondbacks did some shuffling of their roster on Tuesday.

The D-backs announced they have recalled outfielder Josh Rojas from the alternate training site and have placed pitchers Merrill Kelly and Jeremy Beasley on the 45-day injured list, effectively ending their season, while reliever Taylor Widener was placed on the 10-day IL.

Additionally, the team selected pitchers Artie Lewicki, Joe Mantiply and Keury Mella from the alternate training site.

Kelly was scratched before his start last week against the Colorado Rockies due to a right shoulder nerve impingement. He had been on the 10-day IL before Tuesday’s announcement. It was later discovered he had a blood clot. The clot was removed and a catheter was placed into the shoulder.

Kelly sits at 2.59 ERA and 0.989 WHIP in 31.1 innings pitched this season. He’s struck out 29 and issued five walks.

Rojas has appeared in one game this season for the D-backs. He played in 41 games for the D-backs last year, recording 30 hits, two home runs and 16 RBIs.

Beasley came to the D-backs in a January trade with the Angels for Matt Andriese. In 2020, he’s seen one game (0.1 IP), recording a strikeout. He allowed two hits before going on the IL due to a right shoulder strain.

Widener heads to the IL with a strained right rib cage. Widener has made 10 relief appearances this season. He’s also posted an 0-1 record with a 4.42 ERA.

Lewicki, 28, appeared in 17 games with the Detroit Tigers from 2017-18. He went 0-2 over that span, allowing 67 hits, 28 earned runs and five homers. This marks his first stint with the D-backs. He will wear No. 54.

Mantiply, 29, made a relief appearance for the New York Yankees in 2019. Prior to that, he made five relief appearances for the Tigers. He will wear No. 36.

Mella, 27, made eight relief appearances for the Reds from 2017-19. He has a career 7.94 ERA. Mella will wear No. 64.

The D-backs will have catcher John Hicks, infielder Wyatt Mathisen and outfielder Trayce Thompson on the Taxi Squad for the road trip.

The D-backs’ 40-man roster now sits at 39.
