Bringing in another set of hands in DeAndre Hopkins this offseason meant it was likely at least one of the pass catchers in the Arizona Cardinals’ stable of wide receivers would find themselves on the cutting room floor.

That thought came to fruition ahead of Saturday’s 53-man roster deadline, with the team announcing it has released 2019 fourth-round pick Hakeem Butler.

Butler joins defensive lineman Miles Brown, offensive lineman Sam Jones and punter Ryan Winslow as the players cut by the team on Friday.

Additionally, the team waived/injured offensive lineman Brett Toth (hamstring).

Coveted for his physical traits, the 6-foot-5, 227-pound wide receiver recorded 1,318 receiving yards and nine touchdowns for the Cyclones in 2018.

At the 2019 NFL Draft Combine, he flashed his speed with a 4.48-second 40-yard dash before the Cardinals selected the WR with a fourth-round pick in the draft.

Unfortunately for Butler, his rookie season was over before it started after getting placed on the injured reserve when the rookie injured his finger in a preseason game.

Brown played in nine games last season with the Cardinals, recording four tackles as a rookie.

Jones was added to the Cardinals’ practice squad last season after being cut by the Denver Broncos. He later signed a futures contract with Arizona in December 2019.

Before his time in Arizona, the former Arizona State Sun Devil played on special teams and was a backup offensive lineman in four games with the Broncos in 2018.

Winslow recorded six punts, averaging 48.5 yards per attempt. Two of the six punts were inside the 20-yard mark. His long of the season was 55 yards.
