After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for June 13, 2011: Diamondbacks 12, Marlins 9
The Good:
The D-backs’ bats spoke for themselves tonight, scoring a whopping 12 runs. The D-backs averaged 1.3 runs per inning against the Marlins on Monday. Miguel Montero led the hitting with three hits in five at-bats and notched four RBIs. Roberts, Upton, Miranda and Duke all added RBIs as well.
The Bad:
The D-backs bullpen was bad Monday night, but not quite as bad as the Marlins. Starter Zach Duke gave up 13 hits and seven earned runs in just 4.2 innings. The bullpen almost gave up the game in the eighth when they went through three pitchers and gave up two runs, but Esmerling Vasquez was able to close out the inning and give Putz the chance for the save.
The Funky:
The upcoming series with the Giants will be very important for the D-backs as they are only 1/2 game out of first place in the NL West. They trail the Giants.
