After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go Inside the Box for July 3, 2011: Athletics 7, Diamondbacks 2
The Good:
The D-backs looked to be putting together another late-game rally in the eighth. Though it was cut short, the effort was there. An Upton lead-off double followed by two walks had the bases loaded without an out, but a pitcher change and poor batting lead to only one run being driven in and the eventual Oakland win.
On a non-game note, Justin Upton was named to the All-Star roster Sunday.
The Bad:
Ian Kennedy may be an outside shot for the All-Star game, but he was not in top form today. He got the loss Sunday and he deserved it.
The game was close going into the sixth inning; the A’s had a 2-1 lead. The inning ended with the score at 7-1. In the interim, Kennedy gave up a two-run homer (twice), walked one and allowed four hits.
The Ugly:
With Sunday’s loss, the A’s won the season series with the D-backs.
