After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and
provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go
Inside the Box for July
17, 2011: Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 1

The Good:

D-backs starting pitcher Daniel Hudson was a one-man army in Sunday’s win over the Dodgers. Not only did he throw his second career complete game, not only did he give up five hits and just one earned run, not only did he strike out three, but he provided his own run support. Hudson’s solo homer in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the winning run and his three RBIs helped secure the win.

Hudson’s only bad spot was an errant pitch in the seventh inning that brought in L.A.’s sole run.

The Bad:

The bad was balanced by the good on Sunday. While Hudson logged three RBIs and his first career home run, the D-backs clearly would have been unable to win Sunday. Ryan Robert contributed the only other RBI on the day and All-Stars Justin Upton and Miguel Montero have combined for a grand total of one hit since the break. If pitchers are the sole reliance for run support on the team, the D-backs may be in trouble.

The Funky:

Daniel Hudson logged his first career home run and now has more RBIs (12) then Willie Bloomquist and more hits (14) than Henry Blanco.
