Diamondbacks interested in Astros ace

The Diamondbacks figure to be active in trade talks over the next week, and one of their targets could be a guy who significantly changes the makeup of the NL West race.

No deal may be close, but the fact that the Diamondbacks are interested in the 32-year-old lefty shows they fancy themselves contenders this year.

Rodriguez, though, will not come cheap. A lefty, Rodriguez has really found his stride the last few years, winning a total of 40 games while posting an ERA of 3.40.

Adding a pitcher of his caliber would put the D-backs’ rotation on par with some of the best in the Majors, at the cost of some top prospects.

All indications are the D-backs are not willing to pay that price for anyone this year, but a few more wins combined with some Giants losses may convince them that they can do big things this year if they make the big trade.
