D-backs’ DiPoto to interview for Orioles GM job
The Diamondbacks have given permission to the Baltimore
Orioles to interview Jerry DiPoto as part of their search
for a new general manager, according to a report on
CBSSports.com
DiPoto acted as the Diamondback’s interim GM after Josh
Byrnes was fired until they hired Kevin Towers to take on
the job permanently.
It would be a significant loss for the D-Backs, as DiPoto
was primarily responsible for the trade that netted Joe
Saunders and top prospect Tyler Skaggs from the Angels for
Dan Haren.
DiPoto pitched in the majors and before taking over as
interim GM he was the Diamondbacks’ director of scouting
and player development. Obviously after hiring Kevin
Towers they wanted to keep him around.
However now the Orioles are trying to find a replacement
for GM Andy MacPhail, and O’s owner Peter Angelos and
manager Buck Showalter will definitely be giving DiPoto a
good look.
Nothing’s happened yet, but the D-backs’ loss could
definitely turn out to be the Orioles’ gain.
