The Arizona Coyotes announced Thursday that they “terminated the contract” of assistant general manager and executive vice president of hockey operations Steve Sullivan.

The team added that it would not be seeking a replacement for him.

Sullivan previously served as interim general manager starting in July of last year when GM John Chayka left his role with the team.

In September, the Coyotes hired Bill Armstrong to take over as general manager, and Sullivan remained on the staff.

Sullivan spent 16 years in the NHL as a player, appearing for the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins and Coyotes.

He joined the Arizona hockey operations department in 2014 as a development coach and was promoted two years later to director of player development.

Sullivan earned another promotion in 2017 to assistant GM. He also served as general manager of the Coyotes’ American Hockey League club, the Tucson Roadrunners.

Still serving under Armstrong after Sullivan’s termination are special assistant to the GM and director of goaltending operations Brian Daccord, director of hockey operations and salary cap compliance David Ludwig, director of player personnel Scott Walker and director of amateur scouting Darryl Plandowski, among others.
