Arizona Coyotes forward Johan Larsson has been suspended for two games for an illegal check to the head of St. Louis Blues forward Zach Sanford, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Sunday.

The incident occurred at the 5:11 mark of the third period in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Blues at Gila River Arena.

Larsson will also be held without pay while he serves his suspension.

Under the terms of the CBA and based on his average annual salary, the forward will forfeit just over $24,100 to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Larsson will miss the final two games of the Coyotes’ seven-game series with St. Louis on Saturday and Monday.

Arizona has gone 3-2 in their last five outings, all of which have been against the Blues due to COVID-19 causing scheduling issues for the Coyotes.

Puck drop for Saturday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
