New D-back Breslow touts his versatility

The Diamondbacks acquired pitcher Craig Breslow to help
out the bullpen, as the left-handed pitcher comes to town
with a career 3.06 ERA.

However, while many would figure the 31-year-old to be a
left-handed specialist out of the ‘pen, Breslow thinks he
can be so much more.

“I think, through my career, my splits have been pretty
even,” Breslow told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf.
“There’s not a huge disparity between facing righties and
lefties.”

It’s worth noting that in 2011, left-handed batters hit
.352 against Breslow, while right-handed hitters posted a
.261 mark.

“I also feel like I’m a guy who can face
just a lefty, I
can also throw an inning at a time, and I can throw
multiple innings, if that’s what the situation calls for,”
he added. “I think my biggest contribution is not being
left-handed, but being versatile.”

Breslow said the goal is to give D-backs manager Kirk
Gibson confidence to use him at any point in the game for
any situation.

And, while Breslow is new to the team, he thinks his
manager already has a pretty good idea of what he can do
on the mound.
