The Seattle Kraken held their expansion draft on Wednesday night as the team finally got a chance to fill out some roster spots and the Kraken selected Arizona Coyotes forward Tyler Pitlick.

Prior to Wednesday’s expansion draft, each NHL team had the opportunity to protect seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie, or eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goalie, under the NHL draft rules.

It was rumored that Seattle was thinking about also drafting Arizona forward Christian Fischer in the expansion draft.

Pitlick signed a two-year, $3.5 million deal with Arizona during the 2020 offseason.

In 38 appearances for the Coyotes in 2020-21, he scored six goals, recorded five assists and finished the season with 11 points.

Additionally, Pitlick had 81 hits and blocked 41 shots for Arizona.

The former Coyotes forward battled some setbacks this past season.

He landed on Arizona’s injured reserve list in late March due to an undisclosed reason.

After coming off the injured list in early April, Pitlick then missed some playing time after sustaining a lower body injury.

While the Kraken wrap up their expansion draft on Wednesday, the NHL Draft is set to begin on Friday at 5 p.m. at the NHL Network studios in New Jersey.

The Arizona Coyotes hold seven draft picks heading into the 2021 draft.
