Representing USA, Kansas basketball not American enough

Jul 6, 2015, 10:28 AM | Updated: 10:33 am

It’s not quite a reverse D-2, when the Team USA hockey squad changed into Mighty Ducks jerseys during the intermission, but it’s similar.

Or maybe it’s not, and we just wanted to make the reference.

The University of Kansas is representing the USA during the World University Games this summer. Not surprisingly, they wore their regular red, white and blue Kansas jerseys with a small “USA” patch on the front.

The look was not good enough for FIBA officials, who said the American team would forfeit games if “USA” wasn’t more prominent on the uniform.

(side note: apparently FIBA didn’t pay attention to the black, white and neon yellow uniforms worn by the US Women’s team in the most recent World Cup)

So, Kansas took the uniforms to a local seamstress who was able to help them out.
