Notre Dame quarterback Jack Coan set a Fiesta Bowl record for passing in a losing effort to Oklahoma State on Saturday.

The senior quarterback finished with 509 yards on 38-of-68 passing attempts with five touchdowns and one interception.

His 68 passing attempts were also a Fiesta Bowl record and his five touchdowns tied the previous record.

The gun-slinger led Notre Dame to a 28-7 lead in the first half, but it wouldn’t be enough as Oklahoma State clawed their way back to win the game 37-35.

The Cowboys were able to orchestrate the comeback by holding the Irish to just seven points in the second half and by tying a couple of school records on offense in the process.

Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders connected with wide receiver Tay Martin for three touchdowns and also found Jaden Bray to make it four touchdowns through the air on the day.

The totals for Sanders and Martin both tied Oklahoma State records in a bowl game.

Sanders became the second player in FBS history to finish with 250 passing yards, 100 rushing yards and four passing touchdowns in a bowl game. He was named MVP in the game.

Overall, the two teams finished with a combined 1,156 yards of total offense.

Notre Dame ended with 509 passing yards and 42 rushing yards while Oklahoma State finished with 371 passing yards and 234 rushing yards.
