Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul will miss time after the All-Star Break and be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks with a right thumb avulsion fracture, TNT’s Allie LaForce first reported on Sunday before the game.

Paul attempted to play “token minutes” in the All-Star Game before checking out.

The Suns feel they do not risk any further injury when Paul does play in Sunday’s game, LaForce said.

Paul reportedly underwent an MRI on his right hand Thursday morning, a day after he injured himself and was promptly ejected with two technical fouls in the 124-121 victory against the Houston Rockets.

The injury was suffered three minutes into the third quarter. He was issued a technical foul for using profanity and then a second when he bumped into an official.

The point guard left the game after scoring 11 points, adding six assists and two steals.

Paul’s hand was seen in a brace on Thursday in an Instagram story posted by his wife.

Phoenix enters the NBA All-Star break with a 48-10 record, and Paul has appeared in every game after a number of injuries popped up during the Suns’ playoff run. Paul injured his shoulder and also underwent surgery on his left wrist after Phoenix’s NBA Finals appearance last season.

This season, he is averaging 14.9 points, 10.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per outing.

Paul is an All-Star reserve, and it’s the 36-year-old’s 12th appointment to the game. Suns teammate Devin Booker and head coach Monty Williams will also participate in the game this Sunday.
