The Arizona Diamondbacks signed free agent catcher Grayson Greiner to a minor-league deal with an invitation to their major league camp, the Reno Aces announced Monday.

The 29-year-old has 137 games under his belt, all with the Detroit Tigers.

Over his career, he has slashed .201/.274/.309 with 46 RBIs, nine home runs and 42 walks in 477 plate appearances for the Tigers.

Last season over 31 appearances, Greiner hit .236 and recorded 17 hits with four doubles and a home run. He walked nine times but struck out in 31 opportunities. In 33 Triple-A games a season ago, he recorded one home run, 24 hits, nine RBIs and 13 walks with 49 strikeouts in 119 at-bats.

Greiner, who stands 6-foot-6 and 238 pounds, was a third-round pick by Detroit in 2014.

With Arizona, Greiner could compete for a depth spot behind Carson Kelly. While catcher/outfielder Daulton Varsho figures into the equation, Greiner could join Jose Herrera in a competition to make the roster.

Herrera was added to the 40-man roster in November and without MLB experience will need to win a roster spot.
